Initiative for Digital and Media Freedoms in Pakistan
Objectives:
The proposed action seeks to work towards the overall objective of enhancing capacities of civil society organisations and independent media in Pakistan to exercise fundamental freedoms, protect and support journalists, bloggers, and other media workers and fundamental freedoms.
The specific objectives of the intervention include;
1. Specific Objective 1 – Empowering Media Actors for Collaborative Advocacy: Amplify the collective voice of a cohesive network of media actors, encompassing journalists, legal professionals, and political figures, for the promotion and protection of freedom of expression, particularly within the digital realm.
2. Specific Objective 2 – Harnessing Digital Technologies Against Hate Speech and Disinformation: Enhance the detection, prevention, and mitigation of hate speech and disinformation, safeguarding online spaces for constructive dialogue and informed decision-making by leveraging the power of digital media technologies.
3. Specific Objective 3 – Championing Media Freedoms through Legal Reform and Implementation: Reform of existing laws and the effective implementation of legal instruments that protect and promote media freedoms, ensuring a robust environment for journalistic independence and expression.
